Mission Statement
JAH Songs is a newly created record label for promoting a new era of positive music. Throughout the music industry, more and more people are getting fed-up with giant record labels forcing them to make the negative music we've all been hearing about money, sex, violence, and drugs. JAH Songs has been established to give positive and uplifting artists a professional and experienced outlet to promote their music around the world. Having worked in the music industry, and been exposed to its not so subtle evils and agendas, the team bringing out JAH Songs is well-experienced in the entire musical production and distribution process. Whether it be pop, rock, dance, rap, reggae, classical, jazz, or any other type of music, JAH Songs has the capability to help new and established artists succeed.
Tyrone’s Personal and Policy Statement
Back in 2000, I was introduced to a guy called Veno Joseph, who owned his own production company, bringing over international acts/artists, etc. He gave me my chance and took me on as a partner because, as soon as we hooked-up, he knew that I was the right person for the job. We had an equal partnership and worked closely together developing artists who performed around the U.K. and Europe.
This was my first taste of management with up-and-coming artists.
I was thrown in at the deep-end and found myself swimming. There was no formal training as such; I learnt on the job, with no fixed job-description. Veno's feedback was that I had natural interpersonal skills and had a positive effect on those I worked with. I could work with people from all levels and age groups, etc.
Sadly Veno passed away in 2001 and this came at a time when I was approached to manage the up-and-coming artist Ms Dynamite. I was offered the job of managing this artist because she trusted the word of an A&R assistant who told her I was the right person to develop her career. We went on to break convention within the music-industry; we came with a whole different approach to the 'norm'. We were not making demands, but paving the way for the 'Urban' industry because the record companies had very little experience with 'Urban' acts. I was not just a manager, but also a mentor and friend.
I worked closely with all of the relevant departments to ensure that as a team we impacted the market in the right way. Our hard work paid off and our achievements were recognized. Ms D achieved the Mercury Prize, 3 Mobo Awards and 2 Brit awards, amongst many others.
I have always been hands-on, because I thrive on working with artists from production to performing, rather than just being office-based. I was invited by both Pepsi & Polydor to be one of 4 judges at the Pepsi Urban 2004 competition. Emily Henshaw was the act that I discovered out of my bundle of competitor's CDs. She won the competition by a long-shot. I represented, advised and developed her and put her in touch with the right people.
I have for some time been building up a portfolio of singers / songwriters / producers / singing-coaches, etc. and this has benefited the Artists financially, because there is not always a pot of money to fund it. Polydor gave Emily Henshaw a development-deal, so my day-to-day activities were very busy, but challenging - just the way I like them to be.
I have also secured recording deals: a deal with both Liberty X and Kylie Minogue with backing-tracks that my producers have produced; I have worked closely with other big names in the music industry. I have built up quite a good repertoire, whilst looking for people to build a dream-team to start making music with a positive message, to turn youngsters around and stop the violence and crime that is growing out of control.
There are very few opportunities for up-and-coming artists to be able to develop and polish their skills before approaching record companies, and they need all the help they can get. For me it is both a challenge and rewarding when working with artists, because I get to see the end results of everyone's hard work. This is an opportunity of a life-time' for the artists. They usually only get one chance in the music industry and I believe with the right team, “JAH Songs” will give them that platform.
I have so many ideas that I think, once discussed, could form part of some of our strategies. I will continue to support and be part of this Company because I thrive on developing and giving artists’ that much needed push.
In an interview I did recently I expressed my ambition to help youngsters to stay away from drugs, crime and violence and I see “JAH Songs” as a heaven-sent opportunity for me to put my money where my mouth is and fulfill my ambition, that I publicly expressed in the D.M. article. I am living proof that what I said in the article works and have first-hand, hands-on personal experience to pass on to youngsters, before they get misled by the wrong people and get themselves into trouble, like I once did, so that hopefully they never will.
Being a part of “JAH Songs” is just like being a part of a real family. JAH Songs has been the best thing to happen to me, both personally and spiritually. We would like it to be the same for you too.
